Reckon Gore’s right?
I don’t have a lot of faith in Al Gore’s climatic expertise, despite the fact that he was given a Nobel Prize for his treatise on global warming. I sort of question how he suddenly became an expert on the issue when real experts can’t seem to make up their minds about it one way or the other.

Race Card Fraud
>
> Credit card fraud is a serious problem. But race card fraud is an even
> bigger problem.
> Playing the race card takes many forms. Judge Charles Pickering, a federal
> judge in Mississippi who defended the civil rights of blacks for years and
> defied the Ku Klux Klan back when that was dangerous, was depicted as a
> racist when he was nominated for a federal appellate judgeship.
> No one even mistakenly thought he was a racist. The point was simply to
> discredit him for political reasons-- and it worked.

A shopping mall or a slice of life?
There is nothing that can make us feel out of our skin so much as to say yes to something with our mouths that our hearts say no to. Why do we do this? Are we afraid of what the person inviting us will think? Are we afraid that we will ruin our integrity?

Oil and Snake Oil
The big oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico is bad enough in itself. But politics can make anything worse.
Let's stop and think. Either the government knows how to stop the oil spill or they don't. If they know how to stop it, then why have they let thousands of barrels of oil per day keep gushing out, for weeks on end? All they have to do is tell BP to step aside, while the government comes in to do it right.

The buck stops where?
Remember the woman who bought a cup of coffee at McDonald’s some years ago and propped it in her lap while she drove off. It promptly spilled all over her, of course, and apparently burned her rather badly.

The Emperor’s New Clothes
Last week we visited the local mall in search of a couple of items; it was almost completely devoid of shoppers, much less buying customers. Two of the anchor stores had less than ten customers each and you had to take a long walk to find an employee. People appear to be past the cautious stage in their spending; one can say that the fear of the unknown has reduced shopping to bare essentials.

Republican National Committee chairman Michael Steele was absolutely right. Afghanistan is Obama's war and, judging by other recent Democratic ventures in military affairs, isn't likely to turn out well.
It has been idiotically claimed that Steele's statement about Afghanistan being Obama's war is "inaccurate" -- as if Steele is unaware Bush invaded Afghanistan soon after 9/11. (No one can forget that -- even liberals pretended to support that war for three whole weeks.)

I asked my daughter, Addy, what parents should know about teenagers today. She immediately had a response: “Parents of teens need to understand that we know a lot about things—more than they think, probably. We get it from TV, Internet and our friends.”
Boy, did I know this to be a true statement. Just watching TV now will let tell you that. The innuendoes and outright too-much- information peppered throughout even on a Primetime sitcom are not misunderstood by a teenager.

“A world without tomatoes is like a
string quartet without violins.” – Laurie Colwin
A world without tomatoes? I can’t bear the thought. The homegrown ones are acomin’ in, and hubby G-Man and I are in gustatory heaven – sliced tomatoes with our poached eggs in the morning, BLTs for lunch, a salad heaped with maters with our chicken in the evening.
Is there anything better? Silly question.
