Contrary to the popular belief that P.T. Barnum coined the phrase “There’s a sucker born every minute,” and I have generally suspected this to be true, but now I have to agree with banker David Hannum who has since been credited with the phrase. But I have to add, if it’s not every minute; it has to be more.

Rumors of Congressional Democrats privately expressing disapproval of the Obama administration's actions and policies have been given more credence by such things as House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's public criticism of White House spokesman Robert Gibbs. But when two long-time Democratic pollsters, Patrick Cad-dell and Douglas Schoen, called President Obama “cynical” and “racially divisive,” that was a dramatic statement. It was like saying that the emperor has no clothes.

This is a special piece that the publisher of the Gazette wanted me to write on the Chicago Blues in 2006. It ran on April 6, 2006, after the trip to Chicago the previous February. It was a great trip, and a wonderfully different experience. Many people asked me if it would be possible to run the piece again. So I guess you know the answer to that one!

Well, maybe you’re wondering why the religion editor of The Gazette is writing a special feature on the blues. Good question and an easy answer: I love the blues.
“But,” you may say, “it’s not spiritual.”
And I say, “Oh, but it is deeply spiritual!”

Democrats act as if the right to run across the border when you're 8 1/2 months pregnant, give birth in a U.S. hospital and then immediately start collecting welfare was exactly what our forebears had in mind, a sacred constitutional right, as old as the 14th Amendment itself.
The louder liberals talk about some ancient constitutional right, the surer you should be that it was invented in the last few decades.

Whatever happened to common sense?
I’m a pragmatist, I admit. Not that I haven’t flown off and done something impulsive now and then. And on occasion I’ve purchased something for which I had absolutely no practical use. But for the most part, life needs to make sense for me to deal with it. And lately it doesn’t seem to make much sense at all.

Does your teen need an attitude adjustment? Have you entertained the idea of shipping him or her off to one of those host families on CMT’s “Worlds Strictest Parents?” Maybe you are looking for a more practical solution, one where you don’t have to be selected to air your drama on national TV.
I have the perfect solution, and it doesn’t have to be expensive, either.
Camp!
But not your regular summer session filled with cabins, pools and fun—something much more basic and centered around camping out and rustic living.
