Billie Simmons Kavanay 1933 - 2025

Mrs. Billie Simmons Kavanay, 91, a resident of McComb, went home to be with our Lord on January 19.

Mrs. Kavanay was born on December 10, 1933, in the Silver Creek Community. She was the daughter of the late Daniel Webster Simmons and Pearl Hughes Simmons. She graduated from Progress High School where she played basketball and was a member of Silver Creek Baptist Church.

A loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, she was married to John Raymond “Tim” Kavanay for 41 years until his death in February 1998. They were active members of Centenary United Methodist Church where they helped with the youth group during the years their children were involved with the group. An avid Mississippi State fan, she enjoyed watching her beloved Bulldogs.

Mrs. Kavanay loved her family and is survived by her children, Tim Kavanay, Karen Newman (Ed), Kelly Kavanay, and David Kavanay (Sandra); 8 grandchildren – Leslie Ferguson, Matthew Newman (Crystal), John Kavanay, Emily Ward (Michael), Kristi Kavanay, Ashley Petty (Brandon); Ben Kavanay (Carly); and Adam Kavanay (Avery); and 10 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her brothers Danny Simmons and Pat Simmons and a number of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John Raymond “Tim” Kavanay, Jr.; her parents; her brothers (Tom Simmons and Sandy Simmons); and her sisters (Dorothy Simmons Myers and Carrie Lee Simmons Alford). Pallbearers will be her grandsons Matthew Newman, John Kavanay, Ben Kavanay, Adam Kavanay, Ian Ferguson, Michael Ward, and Brandon Petty.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of your choice.

Visitation will be held on January 23, at 1PM at Hartman Jones Funeral Home, followed by a service at 2PM.

Burial will be at the Hollywood Cemetery in McComb. Dr. Robert H. Darville, III will officiate. •Pre-Arrangements
