As the country approached and passed its 250th birthday, fireworks have become a large part of the focus of our celebrations and expressions of love for our country. Hearing the fireworks in the evening is a daily occurrence as the Fourth of July and other holidays approach, usually accompanied by the barks of the neighborhood dogs. "Where to find the best local fireworks for affordable prices?" is often the question heard.

Until this year, fireworks sales were banned by ordinance in Pike County, which forced locals to drive to Amite County or Walthall County or even Louisiana to get their fireworks. All of that changed in March when Pike County supervisors approved a new ordinance regulating both the sale and use of fireworks. The ordinance established permits, fees, and sales procedures.

As the country's 250th birthday approached, Magnolia resident and businesswoman Paige Lampton Alexander thought our area needed a local fireworks establishment to help with Pike County celebrations. She also learned that Pike County now allows local sales of fireworks. On June 27th in part of the old Chilly Willy's restaurant site at 2104 Airport Fernwood Road, she opened her family owned and operated establishment called "Boom Shack Fireworks." It's slogan is "Go Big or Go Home!" Boom Shack Fireworks has a massive selection filling rows and rows in a warehouse space.

Many workers are present to help you find the fireworks you are looking for in both the right size and the right price. The prices are competitive and ranging from inexpensive to more expensive based on the size of the fireworks purchased! Workers even showed customers video images of the fireworks they were purchasing if such was requested.

Buying a box of fireworks and seeing what it would do certainly made the choice easier and more transparent. The business is owned and operated by the Alexander family of Magnolia. There is plenty of parking and easy access in and out to customers.

The fireworks business is seasonal of course, which means the business is open for only a few weeks around July 4th, and then again for more than a month around Christmas and New Year's. The business completed this week its July 4th season and is now closed until later this year. This Christmas and New Year's season, come back and see them and support our local economy!
