Located south of Love’s Truck Stop on I55’s Exit 13, Magnolia’s newest restaurant,
Denny’s, occupies the site of the beloved old Fernwood Truck Stop (which closed in 2009) at 1110 Airport Fernwood Road in Magnolia’s most northern corporate limits.
Denny’s slogan, emblazoned inside the restaurant above the kitchen in red neon, is “Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, Late Nite,” speaking to its 24/7 hours of service. After a soft opening for invited guests on Saturday,
Denny’s opened with a ribbon cutting at 9 am on Monday, March 10th.
The diner has a seating capacity of 124. Called “America’s Diner,”
Denny’s provides delicious American food at what the diner terms “amazing values.”
The diner’s prices do seem affordable, and the food is very tasty.
The diner is especially known for its breakfast items and pancakes, although the menu goes beyond eggs, bacon, and pancakes to serve sandwiches and burgers and breakfast meals any time of the day, even late at night!
Breakfast favorites include Signature Breakfast Slams, Sizzlin’ Breakfast Skillets, with hot, fresh coffee, of course. Lunch or dinner items are also favorites, which include Melts & Handhelds, Slamburgers, and seasonal specials. Plus, they have deals to make the whole family happy. Kids eat FREE every Tuesday from 4 pm to 10 pm, and one can find meals for $2 $4 $6 $8 on
Denny’s Value Menu.
The diner’s interior is bright and fresh. One wall is a lovely green scene of the Natchez Trace Parkway, while other images of McComb/Pike County and early
Denny’s diners are featured. At the back of the diner is a counter where folks can sit in single chairs facing the kitchen. The rest of the diner has comfortable booths lining its walls and center, and tables in between the booths, which can be connected to the booths to accommodate larger groups.
The restaurant connects in its front hall with a 24/7 Subway (with drive-thru) and the TA Travel Center (Travel Centers of America) truck-stop convenience store. This is the first TA Travel Center, which is a large national chain, to be located in south Mississippi.
The whole truck-stop, with 12,000 sq feet, has not only a full service gas/diesel and a mechanic repair shop but also a trucker’s lounge with reclining chairs, WIFI, showers, washing machines, and a lighted area with a large paved lot for truckers on the road.
The hosts and the wait staff were friendly and helpful at all times. Among those employees interviewed all were locals from Pike County who were excited about the diner’s opening.
Denny’s also features a mobile app which allows online orders and pick-ups at this location. The manager relates that there are “some items only available on the mobile app menu.” The TA features its location as “Magnolia” although there is a bow to our larger neighbor north McComb at many places in the truckstop, and many of the mats in the store still say “McComb.” Those who watched the building of the truck stop may remember that it originally stated on its welcome sign “McComb” instead of “Magnolia,” which has been corrected after Magnolia’s Mayor Tammy Witherspoon requested such during her assistance with the project.
Many travelers and locals don’t realize that Magnolia’s city limits extend north of the Fernwood exit, but they have for many years since the building of Love’s more than 15 years ago, which is also in the city limits of Magnolia. Magnolia Mayor Jim Storer led the efforts to bring Love’s Travel Center to Magnolia and extended Magnolia’s city limits to north of Airport Fernwood Road in 2007 during that project.
Like Love’s,
Denny’s and TA Travel Center should be treasured and utilized by locals for providing a new and great service, and all within our wonderful city’s boundaries!
