Eleanor Jean Byrd Peevy Theriot Case (ET), 93, of Gillsburg, went to her eternal home on Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2025. She was born to Dewey and Iris Mae Bean Byrd on November 24, 1932, in Liberty.
During her early childhood, the family moved to Groves, Texas, for work at the Gulf Oil Refinery. She completed her schooling in Groves, earned a beauty license and operated her own beauty shop, and finished college with an undergraduate and master's in education at Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas.
Eleanor taught arts and crafts at Woodlawn Junior High in Groves, TX, for eight years until the family moved to Gillsburg, MS, in the early 1970's. She worked at South Pike High School as guidance counselor and assistant principal while completing a specialist degree in education at Southeastern University in Hammond, LA.
Through the years, she was principal at Fernwood Kindergarten Center, Progress Elementary, and Osyka Elementary until she retired in 1995. After retirement she opened Baskets by ET, a gift shop in Magnolia until 2010.
She was active in social organizations throughout her years including the Texas sorority, Beta Sigma Phi Iota Iota; a Pike County sorority, Beta Sigma Phi XI ETA; McDowell Music Club in Magnolia; the Magnolia Coffee House; and a bunko group.
She was active in her churches throughout her lifetime at Friendship Baptist Church in Groves, TX; Magnolia Baptist Church in Magnolia, MS; and Gillsburg Baptist Church.
Eleanor was preceded in death by her parents; ex-husband and father of her children, Verlyn Lamar Peevy; husband Robert (Bob) Clyde Theriot; husband Lloyd Eugene Case; 2 brothers, Dewey Byrd, Jr., and Malcolm Ray Byrd; a niece, Kathryn Byrd Martin; and 2 sons-in-law, James Fuchs and Jim Cook.
She was survived by her 2 daughters, Donna (Dalton, Jr.) Williams, and Karen Cook; 7 grandchildren: Dalton, III (Karen) Williams, Daniel (Wanda) Williams, Debra (Jody) Hughes, David (Julie) Williams, Shane Spears, Kara (Chris) Flippin, and Heather (Brian) Dieckmeyer; 19 great-grandchildren, and 12 great-great grandchildren; 1 brother, Cary (Carol) Byrd; and 1 sister, Kathryn Eileen White; numerous nieces and nephews and many friends.
The family wishes to extend special thanks to the dedicated staff of Camellia Estates, Compassus Hospice, and longtime caregiver Trudy Beachum.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, December 6, at Gillsburg Baptist Church, from 9AM until memorial services at 11AM.
