Hazel Jo Rushing

Hazel Jo Rushing, 79, of Smithdale, formerly of Yazoo, MS, passed away February 5, 2026, at Walthall General Hospital in Tylertown.

A graveside service will be held at Mount Gilead Primitive Baptist Church in Smithdale, for the family later. Hartman-Jones Funeral Home in McComb will oversee the arrangements.

Hazel was born on May 15, 1946. Her parents were the late William Hayes and Ethel Sanders. Hazel enjoyed going to church and spending time with her sisters. Hobbies included collecting Coca-Cola items, collecting angels, and growing house plants.

She especially enjoyed spending time with her son, Jimmy, his wife, Hope, and their children, Roger, Amanda, Ashleigh, and Coner. She will be sadly missed by all those who knew and loved her.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Roger Cletus Rushing; her 4 sisters, Betty Boyd, Alice Stevens, Nita Wigley, and Debbie O'Neal; brothers-in-law, James Steven and James Boyd; nephews Jimmy Boyd and Aaron Zacharias.

She is survived by her son Jimmy R. Rushing (Hope); 4 grandchildren, Roger W. Rushing (Mandy), Amanda Anderson (Prentiss), Ashleigh Moore (Corey), and Coner W. Rushing; 4 great-grandchildren, Paisley and Paxton Anderson, Oliver and Amelia Rushing, and nieces and nephews.
