Jerald W. Calhoun 1933 - 2025
Jerald W. Calhoun passed away peacefully at his home on March 14, just 11 days short of his 92nd birthday. He was born in the community of Divide, in Lawrence County to sharecroppers, Johnny Watson and Josie Farar Calhoun on March 25, 1933.
After a few moves growing up, he ultimately graduated from Improve High School, east of Columbia. Not long afterwards, Jerald chose the military, enlisting with the Air Force, achieving the rank of Staff Sergeant and serving for a time in Korea. Following his discharge, he joined the FAA and moved to McComb in 1960 where he worked at the McComb-Pike County Airport for 26 years gathering weather and briefing pilots. Upon retirement at the age of 54, he finished or completed his life serving with Habitat for Humanity and for 38 years with the Food Pantry at MICA assuring there was food boxed for each person and family in need. Jerald was predeceased by his parents; his wife, Margaret Joan (37 years); 1 son, Bradley Malone; and 4 of his 5 siblings, Paul, Vernon, Marie and Opal.
He is survived by 2 sons, Jeff (Shelley) and Greg; a sister Daisy Orth; grandchildren, Hayley (Jack), Amber (Leif), Carly (Joel), Jay (Misty), Hillary (David), Kendall (Matt), Zac (Emily) and Kelsey; and 16 great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to MICA or Centenary UMC.
A Celebration of Life service was held on March 19, at 11am at Centenary UMC in McComb. Visitation preceded the service beginning at 9am.
Special thanks from the family is extended to Deaconess Hospice Care of Brookhaven, You Are My Sunshine Companion Care and Jerald’s housekeeper of over 20 years, Dianne Nimox.
