Leonard Kaberlein 1935 - 2025

Mr. Leonard Kaberlein, age 90, passed away peacefully on December 8, 2025, in Summit.

Born on November 6, 1935, in Plains, Kansas, Leonard lived a full and meaningful life marked by dedication to family, hard work, and quiet strength.

Leonard devoted over 35 years of his professional life to the oil industry, where he served as a Field Superintendent. His leadership and commitment left a lasting impression on those who worked alongside him.

Beyond his career,

Leonard was also a proud cattle farmer. He had a deep passion for his cows and found great joy in tending to them— a reflection of his enduring connection to the land and his roots.

A veteran of the United States Army, Leonard served his country with honor. During his time in service, he played on the U.S.-European Basketball Team, an experience that combined his athletic talent with his patriotic spirit.

Leonard was known for his kindness and unwavering respect for others. He lived by the golden rule—treating people the way he wanted to be treated—and was deeply loved by many who were fortunate enough to know him.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 67 years, Kaye Kaberlein; 2 sons, Jim Kaberlein and Mike Kaberlein (Kathy); daughter Karla Holmes (Philip); brothers John Kaberlein, Don Kaberlein (Donna), Bob Kaberlein (Gloria), and Bill Kaberlein (Jeannine); 4 grandchildren: John Kaberlein (Shannon), Daniel Holmes, Dustin Holmes (Gracie), and Kellie Holmes; 3 stepgranddaughters: Tiffany McGoey (Bubba), Tisha Rachal-Boudreaux, and Tessie Hobbs (Chad); 1 very special great-granddaughter, Katie; 6 step great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews who cherished him dearly.

Leonard was preceded in death by his parents, John and Elizabeth Kaberlein; sisters Helen Hoover and Lorraine Lanzrath; sister-in-law Twila Kaberlein; and brotherin-law Paul Hoover.

His legacy lives on through the love he shared with his family and the values he instilled in those around him. May his memory bring comfort to all who knew him. A Visitation will be held on Saturday, December 13, from 9AM to 11AM at St. James Catholic Church 125 East Bay Street, Magnolia, MS. Mass will begin at 11AM.
