MISS MATTIE’S 90TH BIRTHDAY CELEBRATED---- On May 28th, friends and fans of Miss Mattie, a local library legend and story-teller, celebrated her 90th birthday at McComb’s Palace Theatre. The event was hosted by the Miss Mattie Foundation. A mailbox and sign in book were at the entrance. The box was filled with cards from guests with greetings and donations to the foundation. A silent auction of Miss Mattie’s “mouse” collection was held. For a suggested donation of $10, guests could take a mouse from the giant Scooter Mouse collection. A constant stream of guests hugged her neck and wished her blessings for over 3 hours. Tables in theatre were decorated with colorful zinnias and puppets! The room was festooned in pink, white and silver balloons, and a giant balloon arch was over Miss Mattie where she greeted her guests. The Scooter Mouse Cake and Cookies were very popular and tasty at the celebration! Alice Mitchell and Sheryl Perry signed copies along with Miss Mattie of their Scooter Mouse books, which are based on Miss Mattie’s famous friend and character in her stories.
