Nellie Joyce Smith Spring

Nellie Joyce Smith Spring, 95, a resident of Smithdale, passed away on January 20, 2026 at Southwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center.

A visitation will be held Friday, January 23, at Mt. Olive Baptist Church from 10AM until services at 1PM. Bro. Eric Moak will officiate and burial will be in the church cemetery. Hartman-Jones Funeral Home of McComb is in charge of arrangements.

Nellie was born at her family home on December 6, 1930 in Smithdale, to the late Jack S. and Ethel T. Smith. She was a long-time member of Mount Olive Baptist Church where she worked faithfully in different aspects of the church. She loved to make baby blankets and give them as gifts. She also enjoyed bird watching, gardening flowers and vegetables.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 57 loving years, Joseph B. Spring; 1 sister Alice Faye Steele; and her brother Jack Smith Jr.

She is survived by her sons Michael (Polly) Spring and Phillip (Pam) Spring; 4 grandchildren, Jessica S. Freeman (Jeff), Clint Spring (Kelli), Connor Spring (Amber) and Shannon Spring (Melissa); 5 great-grandchildren; and 1 sister Evelyn Hilton.
