Paul Hughes 1949 - 2025 Paul Hughes,75, a resident of Smithdale, passed away on August 3, 2025 at the UMMC Hospital in Jackson, surrounded by his loving family.

A visitation will be held Friday, August 8, at Hartman-Jones Funeral Home from 12 Noon until services at 3PM. Rev. Eric Moak will officiate.

Paul was born on December 1, 1949 to the late, Prentiss A. and Florence Murry Hughes.

Paul was a tool pusher in the oil-fields, he served his country in the U.S. Army and was of the Baptist faith. He was a wonderful and loving husband, father, brother, grandfather and great-grandfather. He enjoyed working with his cows, working in his garden and fishing. He loved the Lord, was a hard worker and the glue that kept the family together. He was a hard person with a soft heart who helped anyone who needed it. He will be sadly missed by those who knew and loved him.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a wife, Nora Hughes; 2 brothers, Alfred Hughes and Glenn Ray Hughes; 1 sister, Brenda Hughes; and 1 grandchild, Quentin Emfinger.

He is survived by 2 sons, William P. Hughes (Stephanie), and Jacob A. Hughes; 2 daughters, Sonya D. Bassemier (Shane) and Sabrinia Greene (Mike); 2 brothers Alvin P. Hughes and Jimmy Dale Tyler (Itonya “Sissy”); 1 sister, Terri Nettles; 13 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren with numerous nieces and nephews.
