After much prayer and family discussions, I am announcing I will not seek re-election to the Mississippi House of Representatives in 2027. Next year will be my 24th year to serve in the MS Legislature, including 12 years as House Public Health Chairman and the last 4 years as House Appropriations D-Chairman.

I consider these years representing the great people of District 97 as the professional honor of my life, and I am extremely grateful for this rare opportunity.

As I entered public service in 2004 at the age of 31, my wife and I had 2 daughters, and today, we have been blessed with not only those 2 daughters, but also a son, a son in law, and 2 grandsons. There are too many people to publicly thank, but I could not have served 6 terms without my faith, as well as relying on God to grant me the wisdom and guidance that I needed everyday throughout the years.

I appreciate the confidence and support that my constituents gave me. It is extremely humbling to ask someone for their vote and trust me to make the right decision on so many important issues.

I am grateful to my 3 children for their love and understanding of my challenging schedule as I always wanted them to be proud of my public service. I could not have been in this position without the unwavering support and love from my wife of 30 years.

Amy and I look forward to beginning this next chapter in our lives, and we will always be grateful for the opportunity to serve the people of Southwest Mississippi.

Thank you, House District 97.

Sam C. Mims, V (R) District 97
