Terry’s Creek News

A wonderful morning of worship as we met at our Lord’s House last Sunday. The music, led by our Minister of Music, Dennis Lea, was a blessing as we sang praise to our Lord. Bro. Kent Campbell blessed us with a wonderful message from God’s Word. Then we had the Observance of The Lord’s Supper.

The Fall Associational Meeting was held at West McComb Baptist Church on Sunday night, so all our churches met there for that service. B e g i n n i n g Monday night at 7:00 p.m., the Southwest Miss. Revival “Go Tell Crusade” will be held at the Brookhaven High School football field.

The Golden Ager for the week is Terry (Pops) Woods, so remember him in prayer and with a card or visit this week. Address: 401 South Prewett St., Magnolia, MS 39652.

Joe Carpenter is planning for Wreaths Across America, which will be held December 13, and is asking all who can help to contact him.

It was a very good program last year.

Dr. Stanley Hartness, I did enjoy reading your article in the Gazette about your grandfather’s clock being returned to you after so many years. I’m sure you will enjoy it, and it will be a treasure to you. My church family presented me with a wall chime clock on my 40th year working as Ministry Assistant, and I have enjoyed it so much.

There are still some items needed to fill the Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes for Samaritan’s Purse, so please get your items in soon. So many children are blessed and made happy when they receive one of these boxes.

Happy Birthday to Suzie Lee (Oct. 24), Gary Boyd (Oct. 24), Victor Bankston (Oct. 25), Tommy Johnson (Oct. 25), Connie Williams (Oct. 28), Rachel Wilson Weeks (Oct. 31), and Lily Speed (Oct. 31).

The grass may be greener on the other side, but it still has to be mowed.

Several years ago, a newspaper cartoon was drawn of two fields divided by a fence. Both were about the same size, and each had plenty of lush green grass. Each field had a mule whose head stuck through the wire fence, eating grass from the other’s pasture. Although each mule was surrounded by plenty of grass, the neighboring field seemed somewhat more desirable-even though it was harder to reach. In the process, the mules’ heads became caught in the fence. They panicked and brayed uncontrollably, unable to free themselves. The cartoonist wisely described the situation with one word: “DISCONTENT.”

Like the mules, when we focus on what we don’t have, we become blinded to the blessings that surround us. There is nothing wrong with desiring something, but to think life is easier in someone else’s pasture is folly. Besides, no matter where we are, we will always have to deal with the attitudes of our own heart.

If there is something you desire in lifeperhaps a new home, a better car, or even your own business-look to Jesus to help you bring it to pass. Meanwhile, remember to find pleasure in what He’s already given you! “

Be content with such things as ye have.”
