Twists and Turns, Happy New Year

So, we have reached another new year. Another journey into the known and unknown; strange and stranger, weird and weirder. And, of course, I have a few thoughts on this.
There are a lot of questions you may ask yourself in the new year. But some we already know the answers to. I mean; we all know that when you turn the volume down on the car radio you can see better. And we all hear the Mission Impossible theme song playing in our heads every time we try and remember a password.
But, what about those deep ones, like, why doesn't glue stick to the inside of the bottle? It's really not important or life changing to have answers to questions like this, but they are still there nonetheless.
I'm sure new and more things will be discovered or created in 2026 and I guess we don't have any choice but to buckle up and drive on.
So, I'll try and ease us all into a few of these stranger things that may leave you scratching your head in confusion or laughing in disbelief. They may bring up another question of why?
A whale swims all day every day, eats only fish and is enormously fat.
A typical rabbit only eats vegetables, runs and hops most of the day and only lives five years.
A tortoise certainly doesn't run, does no exercise, eats mostly vegetables and can live for over 100 years.
Another way to start the new year is with weird questions like: If a tomato is a fruit, can you make a smoothie with ketchup? Is there an official 'old age' from which that you can die? Medicine has been around for thousands of years in one way or another and people have been healing one another for just as long, but in 2026 doctors still call it a practice. Isn't it interesting that we joke about money growing on trees and banks that keep our money have branches?
If your kid ever asks this question, look out! If practice makes perfect, but perfect doesn't exist, why practice? I wish I'd asked this as a child who didn't want to learn to play the piano to see what my mom would have said…well, maybe not.
Perhaps in 2026 you will find balance in your life. An example of this will be eating healthily and exercising one day and then stuffing your mouth with cupcakes and taking a 2 hour nap the next.
You might be looking for friends with benefits. I mean those with boats, pools, and vacation homes.
I think we need to stop calling it the New Year because it will surely have a lot of traits of the Old Year that just passed.
I have a friend who wrote out a list of things she plans to accomplish in 2026. I will rest more, I will worry less, I will set more boundaries, I will be nicer to the neighbors, I will love myself more, etc. Whatever.
My own list would read like this: Nap in a Walmart parking lot more, drink more Diet Mt. Dew, tape more shows I like in order to avoid watching things I don't like, do more to help my sweet husband Teddy-Bear, and eat more seafood (as in go to the beach more often).
It's kind of fun to make such a list, so you may want to try it. It's not a resolution so much as a promise to yourself to feel happier, whatever it takes.
And just remember that going through a new year is like eating an elephant. You just need to take one small bite a day. (I hope you like stewed elephant).
Perhaps in 2026 you will find the answers to all of life's questions (well, maybe some). There are a couple I will answer for you right now. Stop asking yourself when the aliens that left all these stupid people on earth are coming back to get them. They're not!
And don't send any more info to those ancestry sites. I sent mine in and their response was, 'Cut down the family tree and start over!'
We don't really know for sure what is ahead for us in 2026 but Happy 2026!
