Vonnie Carney Givens, 77, of Summit, passed away December 26, at St. Dominic’s Hospital in Jackson, MS.

Visitation was held on December 31, at Tangipahoa Baptist Church from 10AM until services there at 11AM. Rev. Mike Morris did officiate. Special music was provided by Joe McKenzie. Burial followed in the Trinity United Church Cemetery in McComb. Hartman Jones Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Pallbearers were Jeffrey Cooper, Maguire Givens, Garrett Price, Matthew Miller, Turner Owens, and Sam Schifano. Honorary pallbearers Maddox Hughes and Albert Jones.

Mrs. Givens was born April 19, 1947 in Butler, AL to the late Robert Thomas Carney and Geneva Mae Mitchum Carney.

She was a loving mother and grandmother who loved her family dearly. She was a member of Tangipahoa Baptist Church where she was affectionately known as “Maw-Maw”. She loved spending time with her family, and watching movies.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband J.C. Givens; 5 brothers and 5 sisters.

She is survived by her children Kenny Pearson (Lisa), Dawn Cooper (Jeff), Chris Givens (Monica), Ashlee Hughes and Jonathan Givens (Kiersten); 16 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her special longtime friend Diane Simmons, and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
