War Trumps Personal Political Power

What's the problem? Who's the enemy? Seth Cropsey wrote a commentary in the Wall Street Journal February 28, 'Trump's Doctrine in Iran and Beyond.' Cropsey began, 'The U.S. and Israeli pre-emptive attack on Iran, coming after years of feckless effort to end Tehran's nuclear program, could transform the Middle East. The Trump administration's strategy of careful maneuvering between Russia and China, combined with pressure on Europe to increase its share of the defense burden, has a chance to bear fruit.' Cropsey also added Venezuela and Cuba to these nations. We can add nations of the Middle East that have been targets of Iran since this war began. Nations and kingdoms indeed! I don't know how many nations it takes to qualify as a world-war, but this war has already covered more territory than the first two world wars, not to mention threatening the existence of all nations in a nuclear slugfest. Now, 'That's a BIG DEAL!' One would think or at least hope that national leaders would stop their petty sniping and coalesce to identify problems and solutions to stave off world annihilation. Not in America! The United States of America has been divided and splintered into hundreds of petty talking points since the election of 2008. In the 250th anniversary year of our founding, Americans see abundant evidence of politicians fighting, cheating, and lying to garner personal power with little or no concern for the benefit of the American people. In last week's column I warned about going to war with Iran. Worldwide consequences of the war will be unmanageable and uncontainable. The deadly spores of war will settle into every nook and cranny of every nation on earth. That's the problem. Men think, 'If we could just make a deal….' War is the most convoluted institution! It never ends. If it ever appears to end, it will just flare up somewhere else. War traps the most innocent and vulnerable among us in its tragedies. In American cities the war will become the next pretext for rioting in the streets. To protest, the war rioters will declare war against the government. See? The fires of anarchy will be lit in the halls of Congress and the media. We are not the only ones. Riots will sprout up across Europe too. Violence will increase and most people's love will grow cold. Remember when President Biden told President Putin that a 'minor incursion' into Ukraine would be treated differently from a full invasion? Four years later the war is still killing thousands on both sides with little hope of ending the war. What will happen with the US/Israeli war against Iran? That's the question! Who knows? How will we know when it's over? What does 'victory' look like? When Jesus answered His disciples about signs of the end, He added, 'see that you are not frightened.' Matthew chapter 24 records His answer days before being crucified. Verses 6-8 Jesus said, 'And you will be hearing of wars and rumors of wars; see that you are not frightened, for those things must take place, but that is not yet the end. For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom, and in various places there will be famines and earthquakes. But all these things are merely the beginning of birth pangs.'
