Family Caregivers: Part One
4/23/23

Dwalia South
Today, in untold millions of homes across America, someone’s ailing spouse, someone’s fragile parent, or someone’s handicapped child will need some extra care to help them perform the simple activities of daily living... make that several tons of CARE.
Then, that someone’s spouse, or child, or parent will lend their steady and strong hand to help in bathing, dressing, feeding, transporting, and administering medication to their mentally or physically disabled loved one. Because this type o . . .
Felder’s Gardening Tools

Poor aching back and arm muscles. And sunburnt nose. Putting the finishing touches on cleaning up the garden after a disastrous winter and readying it for a for summer was rough on this old gardener’s body.
But I got it done and basking in the afterglow of a hot shower that soothed the bones followed by a quiet garden walk about to review how much better everything looks after a good Etch-a-Sketch shaking out.
Maybe there are some lessons here, or at least a review, for other gardeners. . . .

It was so very good to have our Minister of Music Dennis Lea back with us last Sunday after being out with Covid, then he had the flu. Thank God healed his body and he was back leading our music program last Sunday, We missed you.
After the Praise Team shared in music, Bro. LaVerne welcome everyone and then made the announcements. After the music by choir and congregation, it was time for the children’s story time with Alan McDaniel sharing story with them. They seem to really enjoy thei . . .

Middle of the night ponderings

Pondering #1 As I write this on Wednesday my uppermost wondering is due to my Cardiologists appointment tomorrow. Will we have scheduled a surgery date for my heart?
Pondering #2 Should I rethink my belief in the Second Amendment? The constant multiple shootings with high volume magazines make me wonder if they are necessary? If you are a deer hunter you used to be proud to get your deer with one well placed shot. Not to be sprayed by a machine gun. Let me recap my belief in the second amendm . . .

Reeves/Presley Governor’s Election This November Will Be a Horse-Race, Early Polls Reveal
3/2/23

Mac Gordon
Mississippi Republican Gov. Tate Reeves could be headed back to the banking world after the state’s November general election.
One poll shows Reeves is in disfavor with many Mississippi voters, while another survey indicates he is trailing his main Democratic opponent for the state’s top job.
A poll conducted in January by the Mississippi Today media operation and Siena College shows a majority (57-percent) of Mississippians would support “someone else” over Reeves’ reelection bid for the n . . .
Felder’s Cherry Red Garden Paint

If this winter has shown me anything, it is that nearly everyone thinks their garden problems are worse than mine. Wailing about their losses, they don’t understand that I feel their pain through my own grief.
But I’m not letting it get me down. Not being one to wring my hands wishing for spring, I subscribe to the “Gather ye rosebuds while ye may” philosophy of doing what I can to enjoy the here and now; yeah, things could be better, but understanding they could also be much worse, I stoica . . .

Road trash is everyone’s problem

This past Saturday’s Enterprise Journal opinion page, which I read on a daily basis, featured a column by Patsy R. Brumfield concerning a tremendous litter problem in McComb. I completely agree with portions of that column, but I have to take exception to her suggested solutions. Instead of holding retailers solely responsible, maybe we need to look at a solution to eliminate the actual littering by going to the litterers.

What’s Up Magnolia?
Housekeeping
3/3/23

Elizabeth Woodall and Melissa Johnson
We are both retired teachers who raised two children each. We had assumed that the reason that we had not kept up with the housekeeping chores was because we were busy working at our paying jobs and raising kids. That certainly was always our excuse for smudgy windows and gritty floors. Now there are no small children in our houses... or big ones either. Having retired from the workforce we enjoy much more leisure than at other times in our lives, yet never has housekeeping seemed to “spark . . .
Pasta has Been on Americans’ - and my - Mind
1/26/23

“After extensive efforts, we regretfully announce that Ronzoni Pastina is being discontinued.” The Jan. 3 announcement from the long-time pasta manufacturer sent shock waves through America. Headlines like, “Pastini fans are devastated!” and “Mourning continues for pastini” dominated the internet and air waves for days. Despite being a pasta lover, I’ve never tasted pastina. A little research reminded me why it’s never been on my must-try list.
Pastini actually means “little pasta.” I like . . .
Felder’s Snowdrops
1/28/23

Felder Rushing
Just saw my first snowdrops of the season, which alerts Southern horticulturists that I am nowhere near my Mississippi garden, where real snowdrops grow poorly if at all.
True snowdrops, named Galanthus, are winter blooming bulbs with little teardrop shaped white flower buds that open up with two or three flattened outer “wings” and tiny green hearts on the smaller inner petals; they need a longer, cooler season than do our very common snowflakes (Leucojum), which have little green dots on be . . .

The Praise Team opened our morning service with praises to our Heavenly Father. Bro. LaVerne Summerlin had the opening prayer, welcome and announcements. We had a very good number of people in attendance.
Bro. LaVerne’s message was “The End of Time: Part 3” from Matthew 24:6-14. The evening message was “Time of Suffering” from Revelation 2:8-11.
The bon fire and fellowship that was planned for Saturday night was cancelled because of the rain. Will be scheduled for another time.
